Edwardian Tennis Tournament
The Open Edwardian Tennis tournament, mixed doubles, was played with wooden raquets and the players and crowd wore Edwardian dress with panama boaters much in evidence. Prizes were presented by 1956 Wimbledon doubles winner Angela Buxton a Surburb residents at the time of her triumph. There was a champagne prize for the best strawberries and cream and tea and cakes were served on the lawn to the accompaniment of live music. The tournament took place on 14 July from 2pm to 5pm at the Farm Walk Tennis Club off Hampstead Way and Temple Fortune Lane.
